My name is Jeroen van der Meer and I reside in Rotterdam, a city located in the Netherlands where I'm also studying Economics & Informatics at the Erasmus University. I was born a few feet from where I'm sitting now on September 8th of 1988 which makes me 18 years of age at the time of writing.
My skills include:
I first got in touch with web development when I was about 7 years old when I made my first website about Rotterdam's biggest football club Feyenoord in an ancient version of a forgotten word processing application called WordPerfect. It never reached the internet so per definition it can't be called a website, but it was pretty cool for my standards back then.
I made my first real website back in the summer of 2003 about the Metal Gear Solid video game series. This website later became a Dutch Photoshop tutorial website.
By the time I got bored with Photoshop, I got into web standards. This also became the subject of my new site: Jero.net. As of then I devote quite some time in learning, promoting and working with web standards. In my spare time I also work for Freewebs on improving the looks and code of their templates.
On Jero.net you can read my ideas, rants, check out my projects and get in contact with the one and only. I opened this website on January 2nd 2005 and as of then I still try to post my ideas as often as possible.
Why am I doing this? I learned everything I currently know about the web thanks to the web development community. So consider this website, where I try to pass on my knowledge, as a way to pay back to the community. However, I also do this for myself. I've discovered that writing about a specific subject really forces me to get into it. This pushes me to look further into something than I normally would have done. In other words, we all win!
